acupuncture for sports injuries

Dr. Scott Richardson DAOM, who has more than a decade of experience providing athlete recovery through acupuncture, dry needling, and natural injection therapies, has joined the 5280 Cryo & Recovery Clinic team at our Cherry Creek and DTC facilities. He earned Masters and Doctorate degrees in Acupuncture from schools in the United States, and then traveled abroad to China to study at ChengDu University. Upon completing an apprenticeship in Taipei Taiwan, he has been practicing acupuncture for sports injuries in the Denver area. Dr. Richardson also provides his services as President Emeritus for the Acupuncture Association of Colorado.

Not only does Dr. Richards have a passion for working with athletes relative to sports-related injuries, he is an athlete himself. He has done numerous triathlons including three full distance Ironman 140.6 triathlons, as well as OCR races including Spartan Sprint, Super and Beast, Tough Mudder and Ragnar. He also likes to do Crossfit during the off-season to focus on functional strength and mobility.

Acupuncture for Sports Injuries

Adding Dr. Richardson to our team allows us to offer more services to our patients. We now offer:

  • Acupuncture – 45-60 minutes. Select this treatment if you have chronic conditions that don’t seem to go away; stress or anxiety; digestive issues; migraines; insomnia; or other internal medicine complaints.
  • Dry Needling – 20 minutes. Perfect for acute injuries, muscle strains or sprains, and just trying to get those “knots” to release. Most people feel improvement after their first treatment and can see resolution in 3-5 treatments.
  • Injection Therapy – 15 minutes. Using sterile injection of homeopathic solutions, vitamins, minerals or other natural substances, this can be a great way to have a stronger effect than acupuncture or dry needling alone. Especially for chronic areas of tightness, injecting solution directly into the muscle to hydrate the tissues reduces inflammation and accelerates the body’s natural healing process. This method also works well for injuries to the tendons and ligaments that typically take a longer time to heal.
